Mark is head of the firm's large and highly-rated Reconstruction and Insolvency group. He is a well-known and respected specialist with 29 years' experience as a dedicated restructuring and insolvency expert. During that time, he has handled the widest possible range of insolvency-related problems.

In recent years, Mark's practice has focused increasingly upon cross-border problems. Over the last year, he has been intensively involved in the transatlantic restructuring of the Federal-Mogul Group of Companies and is currently representing the administrators of the pan-European Collins & Aikman Group. Surveys of the industry consistently count him amongst the world's best-regarded restructuring lawyers.

Mark sits on many specialist committees and chairs the CBI Insolvency Panel. He is a well-known lecturer on all aspects of insolvency and restructuring business.

"The tremendous thing about insolvency work is its diversity. Every business is unique, so no two jobs are the same. Within a week, I may grapple with problems afflicting the motor industry, football clubs, electricity generators, insurance companies and service providers.

"Variety is not the only virtue of this discipline. If you are academically interested in law, it is hugely satisfying – the work has a very high technical content. It requires also a practical and responsive approach. Time pressures are intense and decisions, once made, are rarely reversible.

"I have been a performing French horn player from childhood. In my industry, the education process is never-ending. Over the years, I have become a constant lecturer, debater, panelist and moderator. The subjects are technical, but the skills needed are more like those of a concert musician than a professional adviser."
