The Financial Times quotes Jeremy Cape on bankers' bonus tax

12 December 2009

Jeremy Cape spoke to the Financial Times' Personal Finance Editor Matthew Vincent and was quoted in an article on the Pre-Budget Report's 50 per cent tax rate on bankers' bonuses.

The piece describes the range of roles in the financial services industry that, under the report's definition, could be included, and reviews the anti-avoidance measures.

"Employers may, therefore, be able to award salary rises instead of bonuses, and backdate them. 'I think that is where the wriggle room is: "the excluded remuneration" - there is scope on salaries,' said Jeremy Cape, tax partner at Denton Wilde Sapte."
