Scott specialises in all aspects of intellectual property law. He has advised leading rights owners on the exploitation, maintenance and protection of brands and industrial property rights and on the protection of new ideas, as well as advising some of the world's largest rights users on the spectrum of rights licensing and acquisition issues. His experience spans a wide range of sectors, including TMT, energy, transport and infrastructure and banking and finance.

He also has significant expertise in data privacy law, and has advised numerous data controllers and processors on data protection and information management issues. He also has a particular interest in the protection and exploitation of software and databases and has advised widely on their protection, licensing and acquisition.

Scott has a Masters degree with distinction in IP, IT and telecoms law, and a BA in economics. Since 1999 he has been a tutor on the LL.M in IP, IT and telecoms law at the University of Strathclyde. During the 1980s he was a computer programmer.

Scott has written widely and speaks regularly both in the UK and abroad on intellectual property, data privacy and IT.
