Public sector

We recognise that the public sector works within constraints and timetables which are often different from those that apply to the private sector, is publicly and politically accountable and is guided by an underlying statutory purpose.

We regularly represent central and local government bodies, as well as acting for private entities in their dealings with the public sector. A number of our staff have invaluable experience of working in public sector bodies.

The public sector often innovates, whether in the electronic delivery of services or physical infrastructure projects. Our multi-jurisdictional practice gives us a breadth of both legal resources and practical experience so that we are well placed to assist in any commercial matter, however innovative. Working for both public and private sectors on the same types of transaction, and understanding the needs and aspirations of both, enables us to give well-rounded, commercial legal advice.

We have advised on a vast number of PFI and PPP transactions over many years, representing both public sector clients and the various private sector participants - sponsors, financiers and sub-contractors. We undertake a significant amount of planning and highways related work, working in close conjunction with our Property and Construction lawyers as necessary. Our outsourcing experience also includes some significant public sector IT and communications contracts.

We are members of a number of public sector legal panels. These include the Ministry of Defence panel and the wider Legal Services panel (formerly L-Cat) administered by OGCbuying.solutions.
